NEW ITEM - B20307 - In The Studio With The Beatles, Nagra Tapes by Dennis Dekker NEW ITEM - B20307 - In The Studio With The Beatles, Nagra Tapes by Dennis Dekker
For over three years, Dennis Dekker almost literally spent his time in the studio with The Beatles. Every month he listened to a part of the (Nagra) rehearsal sessions, which have been integrally filmed by documentary and moviemaker Michael Lindsay-Hogg in 1969. Dekker wrote a captivating personal transcript that defeats the myth the Get Back-sessions only show the falling apart of the Beatles. The Beatles-fan club in The Netherlands eagerly put these texts on their website. The texts have now been joined together in a unique volume: 'In the studio with the Beatles, Nagra Tapes'. 136 pages, hardcover.

B20195 - Beatles To Bowie The 60s Exposed. By Terrence Pepper. B20195 - Beatles To Bowie The 60s Exposed. By Terrence Pepper.
This book features the leading personalities that helped create the legend of 'Swinging London', arguably the most significant city of cultural creativity in the world. Placing the history of photography at the centre of pop culture during this period, the book highlights the artists - Cliff Richard, The Kinks, the Rolling Stones, Dave Clark Five, Lulu, Bob Dylan, Dusty Springfield, Led Zeppelin, T-Rex, The Who and many more - whose music, performances and looks made them the leading icons of their time. "Beatles to Bowie: the 60s Exposed" illustrates how different photographers explored new creative opportunities and outlets and had a major impact on how British musicians were seen and understood. A new wave of young photographers - including Fiona Adams, David Bailey, Michael Cooper, Gered Mankowitz, Jean-Marie Perier, Philip Townsend and Robert Whitaker - worked alongside established names, such as Cecil Beaton, and absorbed aesthetic and commercial influences which changed the cultural status of their work. With 300 illustrations, including items of ephemera, over seventy musicians and singers, and the work of more than sixty photographers, this book presents the first in-depth overview of pop portraits in the 1960s. It is published to accompany a major exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, London, 15 October 2009 - 24 January 2010 and its tour to Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, 6 February - 18 April 2010 and Norwich Castle Museum, 8 May - 5 September 2010. B20192 - The "Beatles" - Across the Universe: John, Paul, George and Ringo on Tour and on Stage. By Andy Neill. B20192 - The "Beatles" - Across the Universe: John, Paul, George and Ringo on Tour and on Stage. By Andy Neill.
Culturally the Beatles were a global phenomenon - changing all facets of popular music for good, but not just because they were a band that made great recordings. How big a part did performing in concert play? Would they have achieved what they did without an early grounding in the dance halls and clubs of Liverpool and Hamburg? After their first year as a headline-grabbing attraction, why did The Beatles soon tire of the relentless pace of Beatlemania? Through print and images from the visually-astounding "Daily Mirror" archive, "Across The Universe: On Tour And On Stage" answers these questions, examining in detail the Beatles as a live act between the key Beatlemania years of 1963-1966 and to mark the event's 40th anniversary, The Beatles' last ever performance - an impromptu session on a central London rooftop. "Across The Universe: On Tour And On Stage" takes the reader on a magical mystery tour though ballrooms, theaters, airports, limos, and stadiums across the globe and along the way, illustrates why The Beatles were seen but not heard throughout the 1960s. Hardback. 256 pages. UK. Published 05/11/09.

B20018 - I Met The Walrus Book. Jerry Levitan B20018 - I Met The Walrus Book. Jerry Levitan

In 1969 a determined 14-year-old Beatles fanatic named Jerry Levitan, armed with a reel-to-reel tape deck, snuck into John Lennon's hotel room in Toronto during his famous Vietnam protest bed-in with Yoko One, and convinced John to do an interview about peace. Four minutes of this exclusive 40-minute interview, in which John speaks candidly on war, politics, what it means to be a peacenik, the scandalous Two Virgins album, and the supposed subliminal messages in his music, is the basis for the recent 2008 Academy Award nominated short film, "I Met The Walrus". Here for the first time in book form is Jerry's full contextualized and illustrated account of his experience with John, with all new illustrations from the film's acclaimed illustrator James Braithwaite, never-before-seen candid photographs of John and Yoko, and a DVD keepsake featuring exclusive video footage and the complete 40-minute soundtrack of the interview with John. A complete annotated typescript of the interview is also included plus Jerry's memorabilia from that day - notes from John and Yoko, drawings and doodles from John and more. The result is a spell-binding package, an immortalized up-close one-on-one moment with John, a tribute to his extraordinary voice, boundless wit and timeless message. UK. 168 pages.
