19th March: The relationship between Paul and the fans who congregated outside his gate wasn't always a smooth one and could change course daily. When Paul was in a good mood he would stop and chat amiably to the girls. Other times he would be haranguing the fans for intruding on his privacy or giving them one of 'his lectures', as the girls termed Paul's outbursts.

18th May: Paul climbs into a car heading off for yet another busy day. First was a Beatles photo session in Hyde Park with Marvin Lichtner from Time Magazine. Some of these amazing photos can be seen in The Beatles Monthly Book no. 49. Later that day Paul and John supplied backing vocals on The Rolling Stones track, 'We Love You'.

17th June: Life Magazine published an article in which Paul admitted taking LSD and controversially added that it had taken him closer to God. Later that day Paul came back from the park with Jane and Martha only to find the press on his doorstep looking to interview him regarding his statement on LSD and the potential repercussions of his admission.

It was the summer of bangles, beads, bells and badges and Paul had his fair share. The badge he can be seen wearing in the above shot featuring an image of an Indian squaw was the logo of the International Times, the underground newspaper, which was founded and edited by Paul's long time friend Barry Miles who later became his biographer.

7th July: "Paul kept saying that he wouldn't sign for me anymore because he had signed so many times for me before. So I passed my paper to my friend for Paul to autograph but when she gave the paper to Paul he realised that he had already signed for her and so my friend told him that it was mine, whereupon Paul signed the paper but said that this would be the last time!", recalled Carole.

11th July: Paul opened the gates at the front of the house to meet a lady who was collecting for charity. She had been going round to all of the houses in the avenue asking for donations. When Paul came out the girls who were present at the time didn't think that the charity worker realised who Paul was when she was talking to him nor had the penny dropped after she left! Paul is seen asking the lady about the charity.

After she left the fans clamoured around Paul taking photos. The trousers Paul is wearing were known as the 'Noddy' pants amongst the girls. The photos were taken four days after the release of 'All You Need Is Love', the remainder of July was a relatively quiet time for The Beatles.

18th July: The epitome of Zen cool, Paul signs for an American fan, Cyndi. The order of events at Cavendish Avenue on this particular evening was that Paul arrived back from John's house at 6.15pm. Later John and Ringo arrived at Paul's and afterwards Ringo left alone. Sometime after Paul and John came out in the car and Paul wound down the window and said to the fans that they were going to be out all night and asked them would they leave, the girls replied, "Yes".

19th July: Paul at the height of the Summer Of Love, sporting an eastern-style necklace of plastic beads worn over the 'Our World' shirt, cement mixer in background. As Paul was closing the gates this evening the fans were taking pictures and he made a sharp comment to them about the number of photographs they had been taking. Three days later, on the 22nd, Paul and the rest of The Beatles entourage departed for a holiday in Greece.

25th August: Neil came out of Cavendish Avenue carrying a case which he put into the car. (Paul later met up with the other three Beatles and they travelled from Euston railway station, London to Bangor to meet the Maharishi.) As Paul came out of the gates a girl fan made a grab for his head and tried to cut a piece of his hair with a pair of scissors (see the photo opposite). Paul kept cool for a while but then he lost his temper and tried to push the girl away.

5th September: Paul jumped into a black cab, came back to Cavendish Avenue and then went out to EMI studios. John arrived at the studios later and expressed amazement at the fact that the girls knew that The Beatles were going to be at EMI that particular evening.
