Paul pictured left arriving for a January Pepper session, two fans, Maureen and Gayleen, in hot pursuit! (Gayleen, along with Lizzie Bravo, was one of the two fans who provided backing vocals on 'Across The Universe').

The shot opposite was taken in February 1967, opposite John, dressed in green, is Lizzie Bravo. Lizzie remembers that there would be far fewer fans outside of the studios at the end of a session compared to the number waiting to greet The Beatles on their arrival; now and again John would pose for her camera at the top of the steps outside EMI as he left in the early hours of the morning.

13th February: A visionary looking John Lennon is stopped in his tracks by an intrepid autograph hunter. At this evening's session The Beatles began recording on George's 'Only A Northern Song'.

20th February: John arrives for a 7:00pm to 2:15am session at which The Beatles worked on 'Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite'. He is wearing the 'Sword Swallower' badge which he wore at a number of Pepper sessions. Badges were a craze with The Beatles throughout 1967 and particularly with John who carried on this trend right until the end of the 60's.

21st February: Paul arriving in the long checked overcoat that he wore throughout 1967 and 1968. The Beatles completed work on 'Fixing A Hole' at this evening's session.

22nd February: According to our diarist, on this Wednesday night George arrived in his Ferrari, Ringo came in a Rolls and Paul and John arrived together in a black Mini. The session started at 7:00pm and went through to 3:45am. It was mainly devoted to recording the piano chord which ended 'A Day In The Life'.

23rd February: Neckerchiefs and scarves seemed to be the order of the day for The Beatles during the recording of Pepper, John sports a relatively subdued example as he arrives for a 7:00pm to 3:45am session at which The Beatles began recording 'Lovely Rita'.

24th February: Paul overdubbed his vocal onto 'Lovely Rita' at this evening's session which started at 7.15pm and finished at 1.15am.

28th February: Ringo arrives for the session at which John played 'Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds' to the other Beatles for the first time.

3rd March : Ringo arrives for the session in which French horns were recorded for the Sgt. Pepper title track. Just behind him is John wearing a purple cravat and white jacket, he was accompanied by Cynthia.

3rd March: Paul, flanked by Mal, is greeted by fans Lucy and Jean. Lucy is holding out a copy of the limited edition 'Strawberry Fields' picture cover which was released a couple of weeks previously.

For the early part of the Pepper sessions George wore a full beard, he trimmed this down to just side-whiskers and moustache around the end of January and after the end of the Pepper sessions the facial hair was narrowed down to a moustache only, just like John and Ringo.

13th March: At this session Sounds Incorporated recorded brass parts that were overdubbed onto 'Good Morning, Good Morning'. As usual, Paul's arrival at the studio was that which was most anticipated by the waiting fans. Paul, John and Ringo all arrived together in Paul's Aston Martin. A fan took a photo of Paul and he snapped, "Flash it in mi eye". The fan on Paul's right in the picture above is Denise.

George with the ever-faithful Mal Evans. Mal played a significant role in the background of the recording of Sgt. Pepper. As the complexity of the music that The Beatles were creating in the studio changed, he was asked to deal with an increasingly wide range of instruments and equipment.

31st March: Possibly the definitive Pepper-Lennon shot…John looking like he may possibly be just a little out of it. He and Paul had just been driven to the studios by Terry Doran, a long time associate from Liverpool. As Ringo arrived at EMI someone asked him could they take a photo and he joked, 'Take it quick then I don't see you!' Paul and John arrived later, they had both been at Cavendish Avenue. At this evening's session 'With A Little Help From My Friends' and 'Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite' were mixed into mono.
