• B33627 – Joy Division Original Large Flight Case Peter Hook Collection

An original large wooden flight case on wheels. This was one of the biggest that Joy Division had and was used by the group extensively. The case comes complete with the iconic ‘Joy Division’ spray stenciled lettering (spelt incorrectly as Divison).
Peter Hook: “We used to just throw everything into it. It was stolen and then recovered again in America. Lent to Little Red Courgette Catering for years for their Primal Scream tours. So ended up needing a few repairs.”
In Peter Hook’s book entitled ‘Substance’ on pages 23 to 27 he describes how the case and other items of equipment were stolen (and some recovered) in New York during New Order’s first tour of America. Images of these pages are to the left.
As you would expect from a much used piece of tour equipment there are numerous scratches, dents and cracks. In some parts the outer casing is beginning to become detached from the wood. The condition of the flight case is good. Please contact us for an extensive condition report including more images.
The flight case measures 134cm wide by 63cm wide by 80cm deep.
The item was previously sold as Lot 84 at the Peter Hook Signature Collection sale at Omega Auctions on 2nd March 2019. A similar flight case which was smaller and without the pictorial evidence we have for this one sold in the same auction for £21,000! It is accompanied by a Peter Hook Signature Collection certificate of authenticity, a large print of the artwork for the Joy Division EP ‘An Ideal For Living’, both of which have been signed by Peter Hook, and an auction keepsake tag.
