‘In 1973 Jethro Tull brought out their new album Passion Play, which I bought, me being a Jethro Tull fan, but the music critics panned the album and Ian Anderson and the band said “we have had enough of the record media panning and running us down and so we are thinking of quitting”, so I thought I will have to show that we the bands fans still wanted them to carry on playing the music that we loved. I did two pencil sketches, one of Ian Anderson and some of the albums surrounding his face, the second one was cartoons of Ian Anderson, Martin Barre, John Evan, Jeffrey Hammond and Barriemore Barlow. The third one was a pen sketch of all of the band and a picturegraph of the album Passion Play, I sent all of the sketches off to Chrysalis Records and asked them if they could get all the members of Jethro Tull to autograph them and send them back to me, which they very kindly did, along with a few remarks as well’.

An autograph book that contains a complete set of Who autographs in blue ballpoint pen. Included and attached to the book is a hair clipping from both Pete Townshend and Keith Moon. ‘My friend and I were going to a gig at The in Crowd, Mare Street, Hackney, London E8 on 15th January 1966 to see the Who. We got there early and while we were waiting outside the club someone mentioned to us that all of The Who were in a pub just along the road so we went along to see for ourselves. Sure enough they were inside and it was empty of people. We got chatting to them & I asked if we could have some of their hair. Keith Moon & Pete Townshend were up for it so I asked the barman if he had any scissors. As luck would have it, he did & he let me borrow them. I stood on a chair to cut Pete’s hair & he asked me not to take too much off. My friend then cut some of Keith’s hair. We got all their signatures while we were there and then later we split the hair cuttings between my friend and myself and wrapped them in tissue until we got home. We did lose a few strands along the way. I’ve kept what is left of the hair in the autograph book since that day.’.
