The autograph was obtained on 22nd April 1983 at Elstree Studios, London when Paul was filming ‘Give My Regard To Broadstreet’.
Pete Best has signed in blue ink, adding the inscription ‘To Ron Best Wishes from’ above his name. The autograph was obtained at the Adelphi Hotel, Liverpool in August 1985 during Liverpool Beatles Week. It comes with a letter from the recipient of the signatures that reads:
‘Cavern Club Membership Card for the year ending 31st December 1963, signed by Paul McCartney and Pete Best. This card was issued to me on 1st May 1963. It has been signed personally to me by Paul McCartney (All the best la! Paul McCartney) and by Pete Best (To Ron Best Wishes). Paul signed the card on the afternoon of Friday, 22nd April 1983 at Elstree Studios where he was filming the song Ballroom Dancing for the movie Give My Regards to Broad Street. Paul asked me to meet him there to discuss plans for the staging of The Art of The Beatles exhibition to be held at the Walker Art Gallery the following Summer. Paul signed the card during a break in filming. I then stayed for a while to watch the filming, which included Ringo on drums and Linda on keyboards. Paul subsequently loaned me the drumskin that appeared on the cover of the Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album. I recall that the drumskin was insured for £50,000 for the duration of The Art of The Beatles exhibition. Pete Best signed the card at the Adelphi Hotel during the Liverpool Beatles Convention that took place over the August Bank Holiday weekend, 1985. I organised that convention and booked Pete as a guest speaker. The card and its 8-page insert are in such good condition because | got engaged to my wife in summer 1963 and we were married three months later in September. So, no time for very many Cavern visits that year! I had been a member of the Cavern Club since it was a jazz-only venue.’
The membership booklet measures 6.25cm x 10cm (2.5 inches x 4 inches). The condition is excellent.
