B26590 – Paul McCartney, George Harrison & Ringo Starr 1963 Autographs (UK)
An original black and white photograph of The Beatles that was taken in Russell Gardens, London on 2nd July 1963 by Dezo Hoffmann. A notebook page that has been signed by Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr has been attached to the reverse on the photograph. The autographs were obtained at EMI House, London on 18th November 1963. They come with a letter from the original recipient that reads ‘The autographs of Paul, Ringo and George, along with Alan Dell, were obtained by my late Father Eddie Mort. To the best of my knowledge, they were obtained on 18 November 1963 at EMI House, London. My father was an EMI security patrolman, working at the record factory in Blythe Road Hayes, and I remember that he went once or twice to London to assist in security for the company. On 18/11/63, the Beatles were being presented silver discs for ‘Please Please Me’ and ‘With The Beatles’ by Sir Joseph Lockwood (EMI Chairman). A smaller disc for ‘Twist And Shout’ EP by George Martin, and yet another disc for his EP by Gerald Marks (from the newspaper ‘Disc’). The venue for these presentations was the boardroom of EMI House, Manchester Square, London. This was followed by a formal lunch, and a cocktail party for invited guests. I seem to remember my father saying that Alma Cogan was present, and obviously, Alan Dell, the former bandsman and radio Luxembourg and BBC Light programme presenter, as his signature was obtained at the same time’. The photograph measures 25.5cm x 20.5cm (10 inches x 8 inches). The page on which The Beatles have signed measures 7cm x 11cm (2.75 inches x 4.25 inches). The condition is very good.
