A rare invitation to a lunchtime cocktail party in honour of The Beatles that has been autographed on the reverse by the group in blue ballpoint pen. The party took place in the conference room at EMI House, 20 Manchester Square, London, W.1. on 18th November 1963. At the event The Beatles were presented with a number of silver discs to mark their extraordinary record sales, they received awards for ‘Please Please Me’ and also the not yet released ‘With The Beatles’ which were presented by EMI’s chairman Sir Joseph Lockwood. George Martin also presented them with smaller awards to mark sales of ‘Twist And Shout’ and finally Gerald Marks, editor of the music newspaper Disc also presented them with a silver for ‘Twist And Shout’ and ‘She Loves You’. After the cocktail party and presentations a formal dinner was held in the conference room at EMI with various special guests and EMI executives in attendance. The invitation measures 15cm x 11.5cm (5.9 inches x 4.5 inches). It has some light staining in places on the front. The reverse side on which The Beatles have signed is in excellent condition.
