B30364 – The Clash 1978 White Man In Hammersmith Palais Original Artwork (UK)
An original piece of concept art designed as a potential sleeve for the 1975 single by The Clash ‘White Man In Hammersmith Palais’. The artwork consists of a cut-up image of the group with the song title across the middle in a 3D effect and the band name at the bottom. The piece was designed and made by Paul Simonon and Joe Strummer and taken to Caroline Coon’s studio in Ladbroke Grove, London for consideration. It has been mounted and framed in a black wooden picture frame which measures 32.25cm x 36cm (12.75 inches x 14.25 inches). The art is accompanied by two printed proof versions of the design each measuring 21.5cm x 35.5cm (8.5 inches x 14 inches). The condition is excellent.
The items were previously sold as part of Lot 253 in the Bonhams Entertainment Memorabilia sale on 15th December 2010 and comes from the collection of artist Caroline Coon.
