B31777 – Joy Division Peter Hook Ynare MK1 Synare 3 Snare Drum Used on Insight & She’s Lost Control (UK)
An original drum synthesizer manufactured by Star Instruments and owned by Peter Hook. The drum synthesizer was used on the tracks ‘Insight’ and ‘She’s Lost Control’ both of which appeared on the 1979 Unknown Pleasures album. It measures approx. 26cm (10 inches) in diameter and 12cm (4.75 inches) in depth. There is some rattling from inside the snare when it is tilted. The condition is very good. This item is sold as is. We cannot be sure whether it is still in working order.
Peter Hook: “Pioneered by Stephen Morris, the first drummer to use them, the Synare had a wonderful present and attacking sound, crucially used in tracks such as She’s Lost Control, Insight and Decades. Not very reliable but quite simple to fix. Battery operated. As ever the original was stolen in America. (see ‘Inside New Order’ book for details). Great for white noise and cracky snare sounds. Synare’s got better and better and Steve and I graduated to Pearl Syndrums then Simmon’s Pads, and used them for years, until Sampler’s took over.”
The item was previously sold as Lot 81 at the Peter Hook Signature Collection sale at Omega Auctions on 2nd March 2019. It is accompanied by a large Peter Hook Signature Collection certificate of authenticity, a large print of the artwork for the Joy Division EP ‘An Ideal For Living’, both of which have been signed by Peter Hook, and an auction keepsake tag.
