B32726 – George Harrison 1980s Autographed Magazine Page (UK)
A page that has been taken from a magazine which shows an image of George Harrison sitting in an armchair which has been signed by George Harrison in black ink. The signature dates to the late 1980s. The autograph comes with a letter from the previous owner that reads ‘‘The George Harrison signed image, probably taken from a magazine or programme, was in a lot I bought at auction recently. There were other lots from the same source which I did not win. The autographs were collected by a person who worked for Dudley & District Hospital Broadcasting Radio. The person collected autographs both to raise funds for a Children’s Ward and to form a personal collection. In some cases he wrote letters requesting autographs, for instance, there is a letter from CBS Records sending to the Radio Station an autographed photo of Bros. The collector also took advantage of acts appearing locally, for example, the collection included a poster signed by The Nolans for their appearance at Dudley Town Hall. It is also clear though that the collector had meetings/personal contact with stars. Some stars (eg Boy George) have signed on DDHB Radio stationary [sic.], while others have personally dedicated photos to the collection with messages, eg Anita Harris signed “Happy Memories! With love” and Wendy James of Transvision Vamp signed “with love and thanks”. Thus there is plenty of evidence in the collection to show the collector’s connection with stars. Unfortunately there is no direct evidence in respect of the George Harrison item to show how it was obtained. It is one of a few items that have been signed on photos from magazines or programmes. It seems likely these were cases where the collector actually met the star concerned and asked for a specific item to be signed’. The page measures 19.5cm x 26.75cm (7.6 inches x 10.5 inches). the condition is very good plus.
