Record Mirror was first published in 1954. Two years later it carried the first UK album chart. It was also the first UK music paper to feature colour front covers setting it apart from its competitors on the news stand. Record Mirror contained weekly charts, record reviews, interviews with and articles about the most popular and up and coming groups and artists of the day, black and white and coloured photographs. On the 11th September 1982 issue the format changed from a newspaper to a glossy cover magazine.

Record Mirror music paper normally contained around 12 pages and the magazine around 40 pages. The newspaper issues measure 29cm x 40.5cm (11.5 inches x 16 inches). The magazine issues measure 23.8cm x 30cm (9.3 inches x 11.8 inches). All of the issues are laid flat with no creasing in the centre of the pages. The condition is as follows: a handful of issues are very good and the remainder are very good plus.
