B34454 – Joy Division 8th April 1980 Derby Hall Bury Concert Flyer (UK)

£1,500.00

An original double-sided concert flyer for performances at the Derby Hall, Bury throughout March and April 1980. Joy Division are listed to perform on the 8th April 1980. This concert was to go down in history as the ‘Bury Riot’. Ian Curtis had been hospitalised due to an overdose on the Sunday before. While in hospital on Monday the 7th, it had been agreed that Ian would live with Rob Gretton and his wife and that he would not perform, instead Alan Hempsall from Crispy Ambulance would stand in. On the day of the performance, Rob had persuaded Ian to attend the concert and sing a few songs. The tense atmosphere at the venue coupled with unplanned changes led to a fight breaking out. Terry defended the stage and equipment with a microphone stand, Rob Gretton dived off the mixing desk into the crowd and Peter Hook was restrained in the dressing room by Tony Wilson, his wife and Paul Wiggin of Section 25. The flyer measures 21cm x 29.7cm (8.2 inches x 11.7 inches). It has previously been folded leaving a horizontal crease in the centre. There is some creasing and wear to the edges and corners. There is some tearing along the left edge, the largest measuring 2.3cm, which has been repaired on one side with tape. The condition is very good minus.
