B36830 – Paul McCartney ‘Paul Is Live’ Iain Macmillan Owned Photographic Prints (UK)

£8,500.00

A collection of seven photographic prints of Paul McCartney taken by Iain Macmillan during the cover shoot for Paul’s 1993 album ‘Paul Is Live’.  Six of the prints show Paul posing with his old English sheepdog, Arrow, and one shows a group of four policemen. The photograph which was subsequently used on the cover is included in the collection.  The photoshoot took place on the 22nd July 1993 at the same zebra crossing outside Abbey Road Studios that the Beatles walked across for the cover of the group’s album ‘Abbey Road’.  The original Abbey Road photoshoot took place on the 8th August 1969 with Iain Macmillan.

The album cover contains various references to the international ‘Paul is dead’ conspiracy theory which began in October 1969. The album name itself is a direct response to the theory.  The final image used for the cover was a combination of the photographs taken by Iain in 1969 and 1993 with various digitally edited differences intended to poke fun at the rumour.

The photographic prints measure 30.5cm x 40.5cm (12 inches x 16 inches).  There is some creasing to two of the prints, the condition of which is very good plus.  The condition of the remaining prints is excellent.

Provenance: the prints come from the personal collection of Iain Macmillan.
