B39970 – Simon Kirke 1967 Handwritten Letter Joining John Mayall Blues Breakers Fan Club (UK)

A rare one page letter in the hand of the Free drummer Simon Kirke in black ink which was sent to Doreen Pettifer, the head of the John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers Fan Club in 1967. The letter which is dated 15th September reads:

‘Dear Doreen, Having just found the address of the only fan-club worth joining I felt I had to write to ask to be enrolled as one of the disciples of ‘St John’. I found the address on the back of ‘Crusade’ (a truly superb L.P.) after having asked everywhere where I could join the Bluebreaker’s Fan Club – but no-one knew! I sincerely hope that all the magnificent work of John will not go in vain in the future for he has worked harder than anyone in Britain in pushing Blues to the fore and I feel sure that his name will go down in blues history amongst the present + past blues giants – where he so deservedly belongs. Long live the Blues. Yours sincerely Simon Kirke’.

The letter measures 20.25cm x 25.25cm (8 inches x 10 inches). The condition is excellent.
