B40448 – Joy Division 1980 Derby Hall Bury Concert Ticket (UK)

An original concert ticket for the Joy Division performance at Derby Hall, Bury on the 8^th April 1980. This concert was to go down in history as the ‘Bury Riot’. Ian Curtis had been hospitalised due to an overdose on the Sunday before. While in hospital on Monday the 7^th, it had been agreed that Ian would live with Rob Gretton and his wife and that he would not perform, instead Alan Hempsall from Crispy Ambulance would stand in. On the day of the performance, Rob had persuaded Ian to attend the concert and sing a few songs. The tense atmosphere at the venue coupled with unplanned changes led to a fight breaking out. Terry defended the stage and equipment with a microphone stand, Rob Gretton dived off the mixing desk into the crowd and Peter Hook was restrained in the dressing room by Tony Wilson, his wife and Paul Wiggin of Section 25. The ticket measures 15cm x 10.5cm (5.9 inches x 4.1 inches). There is a horizontal and vertical crease lines with two holes punched to the top edge along with tape residue on the right side. The condition is very good minus.
