B41835 – John Lennon And Yoko Ono 1971 Autographed Grapefruit Book (UK)

A UK paperback copy of Yoko Ono’s ‘Grapefruit’ book signed by John Lennon and Yoko Ono on the flyleaf. John Lennon has signed in black ballpoint pen and Yoko Ono has signed in blue felt tipped pen. Yoko has added the inscription ‘To Luke with love,’ above her name, John has added the word ‘and’ before his name. The signatures were obtained on the second launch day of the paperback edition, 16th July 1971 at Claude Gill bookshop, London, England.

The book is accompanied by a letter from the original recipient that reads ‘I attended the launch of Yoko Ono’s book “Grapefruit” in its first paperback edition by Sphere Books, at the Claude Gill bookshop at the Marble Arch end of Oxford Street, London, in 1971. Yoko Ono and John Lennon were there, and probably about 2000 fans and press photographers trying to squeeze into the bookshop. I asked Yoko Ono to sign my copy of her book, which she did, inscribing it to my six year son, Luke. In the mayhem I did not actually see John Lennon sign it, but I have always thought the signature to be genuine’.

The book measures 13cm x 13cm (5.1 inches x 5.1 inches). There is some light creasing to the cover and discolouration to the spine. The condition is very good.
