Provenance: accompanied by a letter from the original recipient of the autographs that reads:

‘The Beatles autographs I have sold to you were collected at the Gaumont Cinema, Worcester on 28th May 1963 (when I was 13).
I grew up in Upton-On-Seven, Worcestershire, and went to school in Worcester. In 1960 (aged 10) I was given a ‘Teen – Mates’ autograph book, in which I began to collect the autographs of family members, classmates, and even teachers. (This was a very popular activity at the time!).

As I got a bit older I began to realise that pop singers were happy to add their autographs. Big acts were starting to appear at the Gaumont Cinema in Worcester, and my older sister (and later younger sister) used to go there on our way home from school on the days when someone we’d heard of was playing. We left our autograph books at the box office and then went back the following day after school to collect them. I’m 60 now, but vividly remember the excitement of standing on the pavement outside the Gaumont and looking through the book to see who, if anyone, had signed it. I remember being pleased when I got The Beatles autographs but I had no idea just how significant it was (I was primarily a Billy Fury fan!).

Looking back now, it seems such a generous thing for The Beatles to have done – to sign books for young fans they never met (and who had not necessarily ever seen them perform!)’.
