B45719 – The Who Autographed 1965 Cigarette Packet Raith Ballroom Kirkcaldy Scotland (UK)

An Embassy cigarette packet that has been autographed on the reverse by the Who. Roger Daltrey, John Entwistle and Keith Moon have signed in black ballpoint pen.  Pete Townshend has signed in blue ballpoint pen.  The signatures were obtained at the Raith Ballroom, Kirkcaldy, Scotland on 7^th May 1965.

Provenance: accompanied by a letter from the original recipient that reads

‘I was a teenager in the 60s and used to go regularly to The Raith Ballroom in Kirkcaldy, Fife, especially on those days featuring the bands which were popular at the time.

It was a very informal time and the band members would often visit the bar upstairs after they had performed. That was a good time to ask for autographs and I would usually pick up discarded cigarette packets for this.

The band members were usually friendly and would happily sign their autographs and would sometimes offer to buy us a drink.

I can remember the members of The Who were very friendly and took time to speak to us for a little while.

The autographs of the Yardbirds were also collected in this way.

It was a long time ago but I have very positive memories of that time in my life.’

The rectangular piece of cigarette packet measures 7.5cm x 13.2cm (2.9 inches x 5.25 inches). The condition is very good.
