B46047 – John Lennon 1962 Astrid Kirchherr Attic Sessions Contact Sheet (Germany)

Three separate pieces of a vintage sixties contact sheet containing nine black and white images of John Lennon. The photos were taken by Astrid Kirchherr in the attic of her parents’ home in Hamburg shortly after the death of Stuart Sutcliffe in 1962. They are printed on vintage Agfa photographic paper and there is a Steven Simon Press photography stamp across the reverse of each piece.

The photographic career of Astrid Kirchherr began when she started art school as a student at Meisterschule fur Mode, Werkschule fur Textil, Grafik und Werbung in 1957. Under the tutelage of photography teacher Reinhart Wolf Astrid expanded her photographic knowledge and skills. She was soon invited to be Wolf’s studio assistant.

Each piece of the contact sheet measures 6cm x 18cm (2.25 inches x 7inches). There are some cropping instructions on two of the images. Two pieces also have a hole punched along the top edge. The condition is very good plus.
