‘In May 1963 the Beatles were only known in the Liverpool area, radio stations had played their record but no great sales. Tours of musicians wanted to finish their tour in London so they would start the tour 20 miles west of London in Slough, (my hometown), then travel up the west coast and down the east coast to London. Roy Orbison planned a tour and I bought a ticket to see him not knowing who else would be performing in that show.
Roy Orbison and the Beatles appeared in our local movie theatre which seated about 200 people and I was sitting in the tenth row. As soon as the Beatles started singing we were all very excited and bouncing up and down in our seats but the volunteers at the front threatened to throw us out if we did not sit down.
As they travelled around the country, they became known and after that every song they released shot straight to Number One.
I saw them again at the same theatre in November ’63 when they headed the bill and the tour started the night after they had been introduced to the Queen. The Queen said to Paul “Where will you be tomorrow night” and he replied, “ln Slough” and she said, “that’s near where I live” because Slough is 5 miles from Windsor Castle.
I have the first five LPs the Beatles released in England, the second LP was released on November 22nd, 1963, same day that JFK was shot.
l also have autographs for Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas, Freddy and the Dreamers, Cilla Black, Del Shannon, Gerry & the Pacemakers, Adam Faith, Joe Brown, Louise Cordet and The Brook Brothers. I also got Justin Hayward’s autograph (of the Moody Blues) when he was doing a solo show at the Borgata in Atlantic City 10/31/14.’
The page on which The Beatles have signed measures 15.7cm x 10cm (6.2 inches x 3.9 inches). The condition is very good plus.
