An original invitation to the opening of photographer Robert Freeman’s exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA), London on the 16th February 1965. It features a transparent image of Muhammad Ali in the centre with the details of the event above and below in the silver border.

Robert famously photographed five of the UK album covers for The Beatles between 1963 and 1965. His work was featured on ‘With The Beatles’, ‘A Hard Day’s Night’, ‘Beatles For Sale’, ‘Help!’ and ‘Rubber Soul’. He also worked closely with John Lennon for the covers of his two books ‘In His Own Write’ and ‘A Spaniard In The Works’. The end credits sequences for The Beatles two films ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ and ‘Help!’ also featured Robert’s work.

Provenance: from the collection of Chris Impey, an artist who worked closely with Robert Freeman and The Beatles including the typography for both of John Lennon’s books. A letter of authenticity from a relative of Chris accompanies the item.

The invitation measures 20.1cm x 14.3cm (7.9 inches x 5.6 inches). The condition is very good.
