B46755 – Smiths Signed 1984 UK Tour Contract Lancaster University Mike Hinc Collection (UK) – £Price On Request

An All Trade Booking, London performance contract drawn up on 20th February 1984. The contract between Phil McIntyre Promotions and Morrissey on behalf of The Smiths was for the group’s performance that took place in the Great Hall, Lancaster University on 9th March 1984.
The contract includes financial details, such as the fee for ‘One performance at a salary of £1,000 plus 70% of the nett advance and door takings after £4,103 in admissions at a ticket price of £3.50 in advance and £3.55 on the door. Net takings being gross takings less agreed and itemised expenses of £3,103. The Management guarantees a minimum salary of £1,000’. There are also ‘Special Stipulations’ such as ‘The artist shall receive 1st billing…’, ‘The management shall supply Hospitality as per rider!’
The Smiths set out on their 1984 UK to promote their single ‘What Difference Does It Make’ and their self-titled album ‘The Smiths’ which was released a few weeks into the tour on 20th February 1984.
Provenance: from the estate of Mike Hinc, former booking agent at Rough Trade for Morrissey, The Smiths and others.
The contract measures 21cm x 29.75cm (8.3 inches x 11.7 inches). The condition is excellent.
